| What We Do |

|
UPMRC has taken a holistic approach to health care following its mandate to provide Quality Health for All. Because UPMRC strives to reach all sectors of Palestinian society and address all relevant health concerns, it has developed numerous different programs over the past 22 years in order to offer the most comprehensive health care possible.
Community Health Centers:
On the level of Primary Health Care, UPMRC operates 25 Community Health Centers in towns and villages throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip. These Health Care Centers focus on preventive, promotive as well as curative care.
Specialized Services:
UPMRC believes that a successful, model Primary Health Care System must be well supported by appropriate, quality support and specialized services that are available at the community level. UPMRC's specialized services include: Dental Services, an Eye Care Program and Center, a Counseling Program, a Dermatology Program, a Rational Use of Drugs Program, Laboratory Services, Water Treatment and Testing and Zoonosis Control.
Mobile Clinics and Outreach Programs:
UPMRC mobile clinics bring services to villages and towns under difficult circumstances, such as closure, curfews, and deprived and remote areas. Often, and particularly during times of conflict, Palestinians are unable to reach clinics, and thus UPMRC must bring its services to the people. Beyond its Mobile Clinics, UPMRC also strives to reach people through Discussion and Support Groups, Campaigns, Home Visits and Health Fairs.
Medical Equipment Loan Centers:
UPMRC's three Medical Equipment Loan Centers supplement UPMRC's services by providing medical equipment and assistive devices to the disabled, the elderly, and the chronically ill among others.
Health Education:
Health Education is a core philosophy of UPMRC and is an integral element in all program activities. UPMRC believes that one way to combat preventable health problems and change harmful behavior patterns is through educating individuals and communities about health practices. Among other things, UPMRC's Health Education Program develops materials on a variety of topics, organizes interactive educational theater programs, launches health education Campaigns, conducts health education sessions Discussion and Support Groups and trains community members in First Aid and Emergency Training. Furthermore, UPMRC's Video Unit develops audio-visual health education materials.
School Health Program:
Without preventative care provided in schools, most children would only come into contact with health professionals in the context of curative or emergency services. Thus, in an effort to improve child health in Palestine, UPMRC has implemented a School Health Program in the poorest schools throughout the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The School of Community Health:
UPMRC's School of Community Health is a non-profit educational institution which trains qualified Community Health Workers and provides continuing education to physicians and other health care professionals.
Emergency First Aid:
As a part of its focus on empowering communities to be self-reliant, UPMRC developed an extensive training program aimed at increasing people's awareness of First Aid basics and establishing a national network of qualified First Aid providers who can respond to any emergency, whether during political struggle or in normal life.
Community-Based Rehabilitation:
UPMRC has developed a comprehensive rehabilitation program comprised of various components designed to address the needs of the disabled in Palestine, their families and their communities. More than just services, our programs aim to change misperceptions, education the general public about disabilities and provide disabled people with the necessary skills to become more self-sufficient and integrate into the wider community. The Community-Based Rehabilitation program also includes Physiotherapy centers, a Daycare center and the Medical Equipment Loan Centers.
Chronic Diseases Program:
UPMRC applied its years of experience in preventative primary health care to develop the first national program for chronic disease screening and education in Palestine. The program targets adults and focuses on screening and prevention through education, as well as treatment. It runs through UPMRC's Primary Health Care Clinics, a Chronic Disease center and a Chronic Disease mobile clinic.
The Well-Baby and Child Health Program:
UPMRC strives to reach to most vulnerable members of Palestinian society, which includes infants and children. UPMRC conducts screenings, vaccinations and educational programs in order to ensure that infants and children are well prepared to live health lives.
Women's Health Program:
This comprehensive program focuses on addressing the major health issues that Palestinian women face throughout their lives. It combines health care service provision, education and awareness raising and staff training. Through this program, women in even the most remote villages in Palestine have access to vital services such as health education, pre-natal, post-natal and family planning care, as well as a host of other basic and specialized services that address their specific needs.
Community Mobilization Programs:
While continuing to work within our mandate to provide health care services, UPMRC has increasingly focused in recent years on community mobilization activities as a method to improve the overall situation of those in need. UPMRC's Small Community Projects program funds a number of projects in villages and camps aiming at improving the infrastructure in these areas and creating job opportunities for those unemployed due to Israeli measures. UPMRC also established a Youth Center to provide young people with space to grow and develop, based on the founding principles of democracy, training and empowerment.
Advocacy & Public Awareness:
As a leading health institution in Palestine, UPMRC has developed over the years as both an organization committed to providing quality services for all Palestinians and an organization dedicated to cooperation, coordination, lobbying and advocacy with the aim to influence national policies and formulate better strategies to achieve Health for All.
