Belgian Consul General visit PMRS Bethlehem

Bethlehem: Palestinian Medical Relief Society organized a series of medical days in Bethlehem during the past weeks in which there were one thousand five hundred beneficiaries.

PMRS in Bethlehem hosted the Belgian delegation including the Consul General, representative of Oxfam, and a representative of the Belgian government.

Dr. Mohammed Odeh, Vice-President of PMRS said that the mobile clinics in the municipality offered services to eight hundred citizens through the medical days that were organized. These services were targeted to citizens living near the Separation Wall and settlements.
 
He added that the Nahalin clinic that was established to support the steadfastness of the people of a town that is under constant attack of settlers. PMRS offered treatment and medication to the citizens as well as they conducted laboratory testing for five hundred citizens.

Dr. Odeh clarified that PMRS launched 5 camps for women in Beit Fajar, Dar Salah, and Khader which conducted breast examinations in order to detect breast cancer in its early stages. In addition to this, other tests were conducted as well as awareness raising sessions.  

Dr. Odeh said that the PMRS health clubs organized numerous awareness sessions for women in 13 locations in the municipality. House to house campaigns were also conducted in order to promote boycotting Israeli goods. In addition to this, there were visits to industries such as Juneidi dairy factory in Hebron. 
It was stressed that PMRS and through its efforts to support the steadfastness of the citizens proceeded to organize home visits for the citizens and to provide treatment for the needy. In addition to this PMRS organized visits to an institution for women suffering from domestic violence in Beit Sahour
Dr. Odeh said that the PMRS youth center organized 5 sessions in order to enhance the youth’s computer and photography skills. Throughout the summer, it has been planned to offer more activities such as sports, theatre, and debka to youth. Also the teaching of the English and French language will be offered to school students.   

PMRS is preparing for the training of 5 first aid teams in Taku’, Nahalin, Bet Jala, Bethlehem, and Beit Fajar. 4 summer camps were launched in Beit Jala in order to train participants in journalism and how to prepare reports and improving their communication skills.
Dr. Odeh said that the participation of the PMRS first aid teams in the activities against the wall and settlements in Al-Maa’sara, Wadi Rahal and Beit Jala, whether through participating in demonstrations or aiding the injured.
