On the occasion of World Disabled Day PMRS organized a series of events in Salfit and Gaza

Salfit: The Palestinian Medical Relief Society organized free medical days in the Dar Al-Bayda Clinic for the disabled in the city of Salfit. Medication and services were provided for around 30 children who suffer from disabilities.

In addition to this, PMRS organized different activities on the occasion of Diabetes Day in which many women organizations and associations participated in. Medical tests were conducted in order to examine the blood sugar of the participants. Also, lectures were also conducted in order to raise the awareness of around 80 women who participated.

In Gaza, the mothers of disabled children sent an appeal to the public and private bodies regarding the application of the 1999 Law concerning those who suffer from a disability during a meeting that was organized by PMRS in Jabaliya.

Mustafa Abed, the director of the PMRS community rehabilitation program in Gaza stated that the Disabled Day serves as an opportunity for international progress to develop strategies and visions in order to facilitate access to services linked to modern technology and to improve the economic situation for people with disabilities and to integrate them within society and make them key participants.

Abed stressed the need to continue the role of families in the process of development by allowing them to participate in marches and events of PMRS which are aimed at demanding the most basic rights of the disabled and to ensure their right to live in dignity. He also stated that the division in the Palestinian territories negatively affects the future of those suffering from disabilities.

It is also important to note that the children's mothers also participate in the PMRS rehabilitation program, particularly in the rehabilitation services and programs for physiotherapists and occupational therapists that have achieved notable success. The mother of a six year old girl, Malak Abu Darabi who suffers from mobility problems stated that she recognized relative improvement from the rehabilitation services provided by PMRS.
