PMRS Summer camp for disabled children in Al-Tabgafor

From the basis of the understanding of children’s rights, it includes the rights of children who suffer from disabilities. The Palestinian Medical Relief Society respects and preserves the rights and dignity of those who suffer from disabilities. PMRS also strives to ensure equality and equity in rights when the children play, learn, participate in social activities, and in face painting activities.
This past week a summer camp was organized for these children which was in Al-Tabga. This summer camp was essential because it allowed the children to develop teamwork and enhance their roles and responsibilities. It is important to note that only with teamwork, can they learn from each other and develop a common vision.
This camp was crucial for them as it facilitated social integration. It gave these children the right to laugh and play, a right that is unfortunately stripped from them. This camp developed their language, pronunciation and communication skills. They were eager to attempt to speak with the volunteers, even though they did not understand the language. This did not stop them though, their spirits and motivation was higher than ever.

The summer camp provided numerous leisure activities that allowed the children to engage in. Such activities were swimming in a safe and secure environment. The children were able to play outdoors with volunteers, swim, and introduced to some animals. This was important as it broke the barrier of fear as they were encouraged to pet the dog. The summer camp encouraged the concept of teamwork and social development.
Another aspect to highlight was this activity was solely a voluntary one in which the youth who participated were all volunteers. These volunteers worked hard to allow this summer camp be a success and allowed the children to enjoy their time. This concept of volunteerism is unfortunately lacking in Palestinian society, however it was overwhelmingly evident in this camp.

In conclusion, this summer camp in Al-Tabga was a life altering experience for these children in which they anticipate and wait for.  It is something that they look forward to all year since there are not many activities provided such as this unique one.
I would like to ask for your input on the PMRS crew that participated and if you have any other recommendations to improve upcoming activities, it would be highly appreciated.
On behalf of PMRS, I would like to express our deep gratitude for all of those who cooperated in giving these Palestinian children the opportunity of going to Al-Tabga, ultimately inspiring them and providing them with the hope of a better future.
